Ghostbusters? I haven't seen it for ages and don't actually remember the quote, but it's the first film that came to mind

If this film is as popular as I think it is, I'll need to avoid a quote that's too obvious... how about this:

Another Bill Murray film. Groundhog Day.

Both the right film and the reason I picked it, yes!

Okay, 1972 movie. Unrelated to anything in that country:
"Afghanistan bananistan."
And here it is. I think I can post the video without giving away the title:

Based on a novel by Donald Westlake. A caper film, a crime comedy.
Lawyer Zero Mostel speaks to his son, Paul Sand, in jail, letting him know that the gang is going to try to break him out. Good thing it wasn't me because I wasn't sure what all this meant:
"How's my appeal going?"
"It's going very well. I wouldn't be surprised if you heard something by next week. I'll be in touch with you."
"That's good news."
"All your friends ask is that you meet them half way."
"I'll certainly try."
"Anything worth trying is worth trying more than once. Three times at the very least..."
"I'll do my best."
"...even though the effort lands you in the hospital."

The criminals explain to Moses Gunn what happened to the diamond:
"He swallowed it."
"What happened then? When did you next see the diamond?"
"Not until the next day. I'll sort of skip over that part if you don't mind."
"I wish you would."
"Right. The next time I had the diamond I was in a police station in a detention cell on the top floor."
"And that's where you hid it."
"What else could I do?"

About the theft of a diamond which they call a " rock". And because it stolen, the criminals refer to it as " hot". Robert Redford, just out of prison, holding his baby nephew for the first time:
"The kid's peeing on me."
Here's the Mad Magazine version which isn't much of a clue. The title they gave it doesn't rhyme with the actual title. First word is the same. Second word is unrelated to the word in the actual title although it is an adjective. And the third word is almost like the word in the title but the third letter is different. And is "Rock". So it's The something Rock.

Robert Redford mugged by Seth Allen:
"Hey, that's a nice watch. I'd really like that watch."
"Keep going to church and maybe God will reward you."
"I didn't say I wanted a watch like that, I said I'd like that watch."

Ah, well...shall I go again? Here's one. Pat Robertson once explained that this wasn't really swearing because he's referring to a "tinker's dam", so... Big long 1930's pro-Confederate technicolor movie with a couple of English people playing Southerners. The last main star died last year at age 104. There's only one credited cast member still living, former child actor Mickey Kuhn (88). So there's still time to make a sequel with the original cast! The character Mickey Kuhn played was born in 1864, so for him to play the same character at age 88, it would have to be set in 1952.
Not quite the last lines of the movie: "Where shall I go? What shall I do?"
"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a dam."

Well, if it's not a trick... though it probably has been said in other films by now... I believe that line is known from Gone With the Wind?

Yes, you got it, Josie!
I know the second line has been used in other movies, but I don't know if it was in combination with the first.

Yeah, I was really only referring to the second line. I only recently found out the first line Okay... I watched this the other day, but it's actually apparently 3 years old. Animation sequel almost entirely made up of characters of a species(?) that can be smashed (literally), hint hint.

Post by josie on Jun 1, 2021 6:38:25 GMT
No, sorry, much more recent - It came out in 2018
- "Moriarty" is a hint, but it's not quite a standard Sherlock Holmes film...
- I put a question mark after "species" because they're usually inanimate objects in real life. (It's not Toy Story, but they do work by the same rules.)

No? Okay. This quote has the whole title of the first movie, and half the title of this movie.
