Are our Florida folks ok? My uncle and step aunt are currently stranded in Ocala waiting out the storm. We haven't heard from my dad's family yet if they made it out or are having to hunker down in situ like my uncle.
So far everyone else I know there from another book club website are ok as well. Here's hoping.

I agree -- I can't think of anyone we have in Florida but if we do have someone there -- be safe please!

I have a cousin and his wife who live in Coral Gables. My sister emailed with him, and he said they're "as ready as they can be" with metal shutters on all their windows, plenty of food and water, and a generator, and they're high enough that they don't expect to be flooded. They've lived there for a long time, so I suspect they've learned what to do in these storms.
Once we had a Floridian message board member in Duckling, but I'm not sure where she lives now!

There are so many former members I've forgotten. Then somebody says "There was so-and-so..." and I'm like "OH! Yeah! Them!"

Oh I forgot Duckling lived in Florida! She was such a doll. Miss her bunches and loads! I have cousins in Lake City (which is sort of central).

I've got an aunt and uncle and a couple cousins down there in the Gainesville area...and I have another pair of cousins in Texas...so my hurricane anxiety's been running a bit high lately. The Texas folk came through well- didn't even lose power, so that was a vast relief- but the Florida folk will not, I fear, be so lucky. Come to that, some of us other east coasters may not be so lucky either. There's already a run on batteries and water at the grocery store, though at this point we're a bit more concerned about Jose (Jose and Franklin. How interesting. And we had a Gert, too. I grow suspicious.) than Irma.
Duckling...poor little duck was always having feathers pulled out! I do miss her.

My cousin co-owns two restaurants on Marco Island. He was in Rhode Island so we know he's safe; just waiting to hear how the restaurants made out.

My uncle is ok. His house and horse farm are ok. The trees and flooding are a different story.

One of my cousins checked in safe, and said her parents were safe too, so WHEW.

Last I heard my cousins were doing okay. Haven't heard anything TODAY though...
