So I was watching this episode of My Three Sons early one morning. Ernie was working on a science project. He rigged up an electric motor to make a clock but he couldn't get it to work. Out of some confused idea of educational ethics, his engineer father (Fred MacMurray) wouldn't tell him what was wrong with it or even give him a hint as to how to fix it. I found this ironic since, when Tim Considine (TV's Frank Hardy) left the show, they adopted Ernie so they would still have three sons---and the kid got the part because his older brother played Chip on the show. Using family connections to deprive another child actor the chance to be on TV is fine, but a father teaching his son how to fix a clock would be cheating? That's Tim Considine in the back. He went on to appear in Patton as the shell shocked soldier Patton slaps. Stanley Livinston's in front, whose brother Barry Livingston played Ernie.
