I never watched it, but an actress called Allison Mack from the show has been indicted for human trafficking and forced labor. She did this as part of a sick religious cult. Co-star Kristin Kreuk was in the same group but had the good sense to get out.
I always find it shocking when celebrities do things like this, but I guess I shouldn't.

I watched early episodes of it, but not much after the first year or so. Wouldn't have remembered any actors/actresses' names.

I guess the lesson to young celebrities is, never enslave people or be a sex trafficker.
I looked at her filmography. I've never watched anything she was in.
TMZ reported that she was present when the head of the cult was arrested in Puerto Vallarta where he fled a year ago.

I saw it and I knew she played Chloe, who had a huge crush on Clark Kent...
sadly and overly disappointing to find out what she was up to!

Now it's being reported that Battlestar Galactica's Nicki Clyne is a member of the same cult and married Allison Mack in Feb. 2017 on the orders of their leader. Journalist and blogger Frank Parlato told People.com, “Clyne went from being a successful actress to a stooge for this cult.” He adds: “Nicki has been in the cult for 12 years. She quit her regular role with Battlestar to follow Raniere.” Clyne's a Canadian and they got married to she could remain the United States.

In the subject line for this, I probably should have played up the shocking aspects of the story rather than asking who watched Smallville.
One interesting thing that came out in the story is that there's a thriving community of professional actors in Vancouver, BC, where the show was filmed.

I watched most of it. Skipped season 4, as it had a story arc that felt out of place in Smallville and seemed like something better suited to Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Chloe was one of my favourite characters, so the news about Allison Mack really raised my eyebrows. It's not everyday that an actor gets busted for something like that. What happened to good old-fashioned substance abuse?

I can't think of any celebrity scandal this weird. Jayne Mansfield and Sammy Davis, Jr, joined the Church of Satan, but they never did anything. There was Michael Jackson. But even celebrity murders seem pretty normal compared to this.
