The forty-first anniversary of the premiere of the sit-com Soap was on the 13th. The show that made Benson possible. With Billy Crystal, and...I don't remember. Scott Baio's less successful cousin, Jimmy. Richard Mulligan.
I remember it well. A sit-com with a warning that it was for mature audiences.
I tried to watch it on DVD but it was filmed in front of a live audience and they kept laughing at things that weren't funny. It wasn't soap opera-y enough. Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman starring Woody Allen's ex-wife Louise Lasser came out a year earlier, was on five days a week and was better. It had better spin-offs, too---Fernwood Tonight and America Tonight.

It turns out that ALL shows debut around this time in September, so it was the anniversary of the premieres of lots of shows. Chico and the Man for instance. So it's a stupid anniversary.
