I had heard about this for years and finally saw it on Filmstruck. A cinema verite documentary filmed in 1966 or so. Features a struggling door-to-door salesman named Paul who travels around the country with three other guys selling lavishly illustrated Bibles. We see them knocking on doors, in people's homes trying to talk them into buying these things. They're $40 each, around $275 in today's money. It seems like a horrible job.
Listening to the commentary, they describe people crying at test screenings. I'm not sure I understood, but I think the guy keeps talking about his more-successful brother who has a real job with a pension.
