Yes. It is Thanksgiving.
Turns out I have ancestors who came over on the Mayflower. Ancestors on both sides of my family were around there and my father's ancestors prosecuted my mother's ancestors for witchcraft.
You know how on sitcoms they have a flashback to some earlier time in history and they have the same actors play the people back then in period costume? That's how I picture it.

It was horrible. Poured down rain. The basement was flooded with sewage. This happened several years ago. On Thanksgiving I jumped in the car and raced out to Kmart and bought a shopvac. Don't know where it is now so I ran to work and borrowed the shopvac from there. Spent hours vacuuming up water and there's still more. Same thing happened at my brother's house a hundred twenty miles north of here and at my sister's house a few years ago, all on Thanksgiving. That couldn't possibly be a coincidence.

I haven't had much role in the preparation of Thanksgiving meals in the past. I didn't know cooking a turkey was so gross.

It's not any more gross than cooking a lot of other things.

'Gross', turkey-wise, is when you're going through the fridge about a month later and discover some Thanksgiving leftovers that need to Go Away, NOW. I was much younger then, and I put it in the meat drawer; turned out to be an 'out of sight, out of mind' situation.
Meanwhile, my grocery store refused to issue a refund to a rather ...uninformed?...customer who roasted his turkey with the unopened bag of giblets still inside it. /headshake

!! Well, I didn't see the customer myself, I just heard about it from the meat-department manager. But I'm pretty sure it wasn't that guy. It did leave me wondering if the customer tried to stuff the bird or not, in which case the parallel would be remarkable. So let's go ahead and say he did. : D

I don't know that I'd blame them. I wouldn't want to reach in there.
