So I've been gone a while. Quite a while. So long I had to make a new account. Either that or the change in board forced me to, but my old username was taken so I'm thinking that it's just because I forgot my old password and I no longer use the email associated with that account. But anyway, my new username is MamaBear, but I once was known as Joesthebestest. Looks like a lot has changed, although sadly it doesn't appear the board is very active. I feel partly to blame for that, for going on hiatus for so long. So what happened while I was gone? I guess HDA got shut down? Did something happen to copagirl? What's everyone up to these days? I hope to be more active, but I have quite a hectic life now. I don't remember the last time I was on here or how many kids I had at that time, but I'm pretty sure just one. I'm up to three now lol. My oldest is now 10, then I've got a 5 1/2 year old and a 3 month old (or he will be 3 months on the 25th). I'm currently working part time, but possibly changing jobs and picking up more hours soon. But there's still those 4 AM feedings I could use to keep in touch, haha. Well, anyway, hello to whoever may be left. I don't know if any of you remember me, so if not, hello for the first (?) time!

Welcome back, Joesthebestest. Man, is it good to see a familiar face from HDA around here.
HDA was shut down around 2 years ago due to lack of activity. Lola had passed away a couple of years before that, and her death had a huge impact on the board. Many of the members created accounts on this board, but didn't stick around.
That's the bare-bones summary. Good to see you again, and fingers crossed that you'll stick around.

Lola died as a result of complications with her transplanted heart. As I recall, the first indication of trouble was when she posted about a medical checkup. She said that her doctor was a bit concerned with some of the results. At the time, I don't think anybody was unduly worried. Lola had probably hit a number of bumps in the road over the years.
Not long after that she stopped posting, which prompted a member (think it was Zenfrodo) to create a thread asking if anyone had heard from her. She wasn't the only one wondering what was going on. Lola just didn't have long periods of radio silence. That's when we got word that she was in hospital.
From there, things just went downhill. Rokia invited members to submit messages which she had printed on a card, and the card was delivered to Lola's sister. The messages were read to Lola. I think she slipped into a coma eventually. She eventually woke up, which caused a bit of excitement at HDA. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a final rally. She was soon moved into the hospice wing, and her sister broke the news of her death on social media. That was a very bad day at HDA. I think that was also the beginning of the end for the board. Although it hung around for a few more years, activity dropped after that.
There was one final chapter. Some time afterwards, Dawn posted a message about receiving a Doctor Who magazine in the post from Lola. She'd mailed it shortly before she became sick. It was a final reminder of Lola's generosity.

It's lovely to "see" you again, Joesthebestest, only now we must call you Mamabear. Your kids are beautiful, and I'm so happy you're blessed with them.
Shane's right that Lola's passing took the heart out of the message board. But also, people just got involved with other things and got too busy to read or post, or no longer had time or inclination to write Hardy Boys stories. Part of the problem with this board is that it doesn't have the stories on it. If anyone still writes, they usually put it up on Fanfiction.net. Cherylann is the only one I know of from here that still writes and posts there occasionally -- unless, of course, they're writing and posting under different names over there.

I did notice there weren't many stories. That's too bad. Somebody should post more stories! I would but I'm so braindead I wouldn't get very far lol.
