Okay, this is ONLY FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE STORIES POSTED ON THE HDA... I know we have faithful readers but I'd like to know what the HDA writer's think since it is their stories we are talking about.
Here is the original email:
Hi, Rokia:
I'm a volunteer with the Organization for Transformative Works, specifically with the Open Doors committee, which aims to preserve Internet archives of fanworks by integrating them into the Archive of Our Own (AO3), a multi-fandom archive site. (You can view a list of our archive import projects here: archiveofourown.org/admin_posts?utf8=%E2%9C%93&tag=18)
A fan suggested we contact you to see if we would be able to assist. If you would be interested, we'd like to talk about ways to import works from The Hardy Detective Agency to the AO3 as a separate, searchable collection. Any text-based works can be hosted directly on the AO3, and we can create bookmarks for the collection that would link to works that were not hosted directly on the archive. Importing The Hardy Detective Agency to the AO3 would give creators the ability to directly edit their works or add new ones to the collection (with your approval), and remove the need for technical maintenance or hosting costs.
Please let us know if you have any questions or would like to chat about what we might be able to help with!

--------------------------------------
As noted in the original thread - there are a few issues with this.
1) Searching for stuff on AO3 is not so easy - not like either the HDA or ff.net was/is.
2) AO3 allows EVERYTHING... smut, more smut, stuff that would make your hair curl (like incest). I have no idea if we'd be able to lock down permissions for an HDA site on AO3 to disallow those kinds of things.
3) I don't have a way to contact every single author who has ever posted a story on the HDA and while, yes, they originally gave me permission to archive their stories (by posting them on the HDA) they never gave me permission (nor did I ask for) to post it somewhere else even if it's still tied into the HDA. No matter what the sender of the above email says, I don't agree with her stance that I have permission to post them any ole place I want to so long as I call it the HDA...
4) I still don't know how much work this would be.
5) From what I've been told, finding stories on special archives on AO3 is extremely hard...
--------------------------------------
On a couple of positive notes:
1) It would, potentially, keep all stories intact and available for everyone to still read (provided we could find them on AO3 of course).
2) I potentially wouldn't have to do all the work to maintain the archive on AO3 - or to get it all moved. I would hopefully just have to approve or disapprove of new stories.
So I would like to hear from you - either in this post OR via PM if you wish...
