That was mostly facetious, Paulina Ann. I don't really expect you to either read OR comment on any of them. Compared to Laurie's and Cheryl's stories, they're pretty much drivel.

JD, your stories are fabulous! I'm enjoying them (again) very much.

I am having a great time reading JD's stories! And I was hoping to catch up on my reviewing this evening, but instead I've hit a snag with Diamond Joe, which is currently being held hostage by my computer. Somehow the original file is gone. I have the .asd back up file, but of course Word won't open that (even though it created it, never been able to figure that out). The last time I had to open an asd file I about went nuts. Unfortunately, I remember that part, but not the how to get it open part. So far 3 hours down the drain and nada. I'm really hoping not to have to re-write the rest, although I will if I have to, I suppose. Any one happen to recall now to open there, short of dynamite, which I'm considering....

I have no idea about the answer to your question, Laurie... but just a suggestion--
Try using Google docs. I swear by it. Everything saves automatically and nothing ever gets lost. All you need is a gmail account, which is free. It's changed my life! Love it!
In the meantime, best of luck. I soooo hope you didn't lose anything. That's awful-- it's happened to me. Thinking of you and sending a virtual hug!

No idea about the asd files. Have not used Word in a long long time. Anyway, I try google search in situations like this, Laurie. I am thinking that would work better than dynamite. Here is one of the result: www.easeus.com/file-recovery/open-asd-files.htmlHope that helps or something else. I would hate to lose my work on a story. Like Cheryl, I also use Google docs. It saves as you write or it does not let you write. Also, one can use different devices to write. That has come in handy. Best of luck!

I may have to try that - the other option is to separate my work computer from personal all together. I do a lot of medical charting at home, and I like using my laptop so I can be lazy in the comfy chair doing it. However, that means I can't use all the programs I'd like sometimes as our work software is very finicky about what operating system you use, what search engine, what version, etc. I'm inherently a Linux girl, but work won't touch anything except windows, and that can't be newer than Windows 7 (eek, until last year it insisted on vista). So, I've got my hard drive partitioned, but still a pain. I never did get the stupid file open last night - I just finally managed to reconstruct the original from the word event log where I was spell checking etc. Any way, no dynamite for now...

Diamond Joe is being a problem child all around, Laurie; I wrote feedback for the latest chapter and I swear I posted it, but it never showed up! And trying to re-create your story if you can't get the files open -- well, something like that never works very well; it's like it gets one's best shot the first time around, and it doesn't come out of one's head the same way twice. But good luck with breaking into your computer!
