I just made a variation on zenfrodo's strawberry basil smoothie recipe with kombucha and frozen berries. OMG. Bliss! I can definitely see Mrs. Morton making this.......I could get the veg and frhit out of the garden, and the honey came from our bees.
My version:
4 large basil leaves 1/4 cup honey (or to taste......I used stuff I just harvested in June) Organic lemon juice to taste (I used about 2 tablespoons to balance out the honey) 1 1/2 cups frozen strawberries 2 small cucumbers 1/2 cup plain kombucha for liquid
I threw everything into the blender and am now happily sipping on a fabulous strawberry daiquiri smoothie thingy minus the liquor (which I avoid like the plague because migraines are not my friend).
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

...I wonder if the Mortons ever kept bees? I can see Chet having a Serious Bee Incident if so. Maybe a hobby of his, though I wonder how helpful that would be in one of the guys' cases.
:steals fflur's drink while everyone is speculating about that:

I thought they did? Or was it birds?

They probably kept anything that the ghostwriters needed for their particular tale, and whenever Chet's hobbies added to it. Including a pair of unhappy Manx cats who are probably wondering why the fat kid doesn't play with them anymore. Glad you liked the drink, Fflur!

Looking for some good fig recipes. I have a fig tree and it's over producing right now.
Dairy, shellfish, bacon, and chocolate are 100% off limits. Fig leaves are definitely an option before we have to trim it back for the winter.
I'm toying with the idea of figs marinated in balsamic vinegar and paired with caramelized onions on a kale and steak salad, and I like them raw, and fried in olive oil, but hate fig newtons.

We have a [baby] fig tree just planted this spring. I had four figs in the fridge, and a recipe for roasted figs that called for 5, but I used it anyway. You just slice them up however you wish, sprinkle with 2 tablespoons of brown sugar and a couple dashes of cinnamon, then bake at 350º F for 40 minutes. Drizzle honey over the top and let sit until cool enough to eat. Or does that sound too much like Fig Newtons for your taste, Fflur?

Hmmm. I'll have to try that.
I just discovered a completely Fflur-safe cheese substitute and I am ELATED. It's been ten years since I could eat real dairy. This stuff is basically red pepper cashew hummus, so it doesn't melt, but it makes amazing cheez sauce when I add in olive oil and safe mayo for creamy factors, and heat it, and as a result I CAN EAT MACARONI AND CHEESE AGAIN.
I may seriously have to try some of it as goat cheez on figs!
