Today is busy. I dropped my car off to have the winter tires switched out, work all day, going to a friend's daughter's play tonight, and getting ready for a yard sale tomorrow! Maybe I'll manage to rest a little, too.

Counting down the minutes until 5pm as my vacation starts as soon as the library is closed. My son is off on a school trip to Italy (!?!) so the new guy and I are going to spend some time together which will be very nice.

Worked in the church office until 2 p.m., did some grocery shopping, and got home about 3:30.

Yesterday was a "thoroughly clean the kitchen" day. Today I'll take Mary to the church. She's in the Youth Group and will be hosting Easter breakfast tomorrow morning and they'll be setting up for it today.
Today I'll be doing as many make-ahead dishes as I can for dinner tomorrow. Family will be over and I've got the Easter baskets all ready for my kids and grandkids. If the weather holds, we'll have an egg hunt. BUT it's supposed to rain so I have a hunch that the hunt might be in my kitchen and living room. Ah well.

I swore that after I did my lecture I would take the week off historic preservation work.
I thought about going out to the site today because it was amazing and warm and sunny, but the radar was right in that I didn't have much dry weather to get anything done. So, I'm not going to do anything until my next business advisement meeting. I'd like to add in that I won't think about it but that ain't gonna happen as I am already getting offers to partner on this and within 48 hours after the lecture had 5 offers of partnering........
So yeah, for sanity's sake I'm not doing anything for it for at least a week. I need the break, I've been going nonstop since August on this monster.

Rehearsal for Easter at church, shopping for Easter dinner (and other food!), half-dozing on the sofa because this has been a rather exhausting week!

Happy Easter!
It's almost noon. Anita, Aaron and the grand-kids should be here soon and shortly after that my parents and brother Dale will be here. An egg hunt for the little ones and then dinner. I spent yesterday in a frenzy of cooking and cleaning. I love picking a menu that involves very little cooking the day OF the party! Ham in the crock-pot, potatoes will be in the oven, followed by the rolls. Veggies to be cooked quickly on the stove-top and salads, deviled eggs and dessert are ready to go. Best part will be when dinner is over and I can have a relaxing evening.

Working on Easter desert right now before the main dinner goes in. Desert is gluten free carob brownies with lemon curd ice cream, but first I have to make the butter! Dinner is ham for everyone else, chicken for me (weird food allergies that manifest via migraines), and as many veggies as we can forage out of the gardens.

Resting the whole afternoon after church. Yesterday we were out of town and the starter went bad on the vehicle. We rode in the tow truck back home 3 hours!!! By the time we would have gotten a taxi to an open car rental place (not much open at 5pm the night before a holiday) and paid the rental and stuff, it would have been almost as much as the tow ride. However, it was NOT comfy as I got to sit in the middle. But we're home safely.

That stinks, Paulina! I'm getting ready to drive about 2,500 miles so I took my car to a local guy I know here to check it out. Good thing I did. The timing belt had to be replaced so I had him replace all the fittings and the water pump at the same time. That all set me back about a grand. I also bought new tires - which aren't cheap in Alaska due to freight costs, so there went another 650... and then while the guy was working on my car he noticed the radiator hose fitting was leaking. Turns out the dealer, who had punctured my radiator last November and had installed a new one, hadn't gotten it installed correctly. So I had to get them on the phone today and give them some heat until they agreed to ship a new radiator and hose to the mechanic here. (I live a 3 hour drive from the dealership... there's no way I am driving 3 hours again for their SECOND mistake! Ugh!)
So, I feel your pain about car stuff. Seems like all of mine is cropping up at once. Then again, my trusted old Subie is right at 105,000 miles, so it's that time, I suppose!

Better to get it fixed before you drive to Seattle than break down on the way, Austin -- but whew! That's a spendy car at the moment!

I'm very grateful for having the use of a company car. All repairs are paid for!!!
Speaking of work, today I'm catching up on a lot of it, because yesterday I was doped up on Benadryl I took for an allergic reaction to something I ate.

Today I'm going to leave work early so I can make a run up to my favorite weaving store. They're only open 4 days a week (it's at the back of the owner's house) and they close by 5:30. I get home at 5 and they're a half hour from my house. This means that the only day I can go is Saturdays. BUT my car is going into the shop tomorrow for a power steering fluid leak AND I'll have the grandkids overnight. Even if I get my car back in time to go, I really, really don't want to take a 2 and 4 year old into a store with me.

Updating my new website. I'm doing a podcast with an international archaeology blog tomorrow (supposedly) and need to get my website updated. I just introduced the project, though, so we'll see. Hopefully I won't be distracted with driving around trying to find rocks to investigate as part of it.

Are you driving the Al-Can instead of taking the Ferry system, Austin? Just curious! (I know the ferries are quite pricey!)

Yep, driving. I'm not sure if the ferries are totally up and running right now. Maybe they are. I'd prefer not to be stuck on a boat for days in a little cabin or in a tent on deck... I'll take driving the Alcan anyday.

Your woes are similar to mine Austin, in regards to the repairs. Found something else wrong Friday and will have to take it in when the part arrives. Currently have a headache unrelated to the repairs.

I got into something that same day that caused a reaction like that. Talk about misery. Hope it wasn't too awful for you.

I'll take driving the Alcan anyday. The AlCan IS a hoot - though I gotta ask - is it mostly paved now? Back in the 70s (when we drove it) it was still 75% gravel - and as you can imagine, was a total blast when it rained 3 days straight . We had a Mudmobile when we got to Alaska! We took the ferry down to Ketchikan from Haines when we went back - stayed in Ketchikan for a few months, then took the ferry down to Prince Rupert, BC...

That drive from Haines Junction on down is mega beautiful! Even prettier than Banff, to me!!
The Alcan is almost 100% "paved" these days, save for the occasional breaks in pavement for problematic frost heave areas or the like. I say "paved" because the area between Destruction Bay and the US border is ROUGH.....I honestly feel like it would drive better if they just left it gravel... it's kinda like Canada thought, well, we don't have any more towns out here... so you Americans headed to Alaska can just go for a bumpy ride! LOL! I'd say for the last 100 miles or so headed towards the US border, we were averaging about 15 MPH. Just frost heaves all over the place, pavement breaks, potholes and washboards.

Heh, that sounds like the roads around here in the spring. If they're not dirt, they're full of potholes for miles.

Reviving an old thread, apparently.
Trying to stay sane while working 35 hours a week for job A and anywhere from 15 to 30 hours a week for job B.
Remind me again why I decided to try starting a nonprofit that wound up with support from three major New York State offices in the space of only two months and got so big so fast I'm already having to bring on more help. Guess that's testimony to how much we need this program.
I'm exhausted and cranky but still need to do two studies and a video submission to have archived for grant applications before January 1.
Star Trek and the Hardy Boys are saving my sanity again......
