LOL!!! So guess what I did last night, Stormwatcher? I had just gotten into bed when my I-Pad told me there was 'precipitation detected within 5 miles of your location'... and I remembered the windows on my parent's car was down... SO I got up (in my nightgown no less) and went out, grabbed my keys to their car, found my big umbrella, opened the front door and realized... 'nope, not going this way' - went through the garage instead. Got the car turned on, hit the up arrow on all 4 windows, turned the car off, headed in and realized there were two windows down on the Ford (the car I drive most of the time). Went inside, got my keys to the Ford, went back out, turned on the Ford, hit the up arrow on the two windows, turned off the car, went through the garage door, closed the umbrella and realized, despite it, I was pretty much dripping.
(Please note, I was barefoot... which I'm not supposed to be anymore... but I wasn't going to douse my only good pair of shoes... so now my ankle hurts worse.)
Whatta night lol!)

I'm also trying to think of a pot luck dish that I can take to the steam punk themed picnic that I'm going to on Saturday. Oooooo, we used to have a Steampunk picnic here too! Have lots of fun!!! Between work, I'm busy doing some rearranging of the apartment & getting ready for Paul's annual visit. (Some of you will remember Paul!) Also making some new garb for the Pirate Festival. This is our 7th year going, it's time for something different! Raven is working on building new stock for his booth at the big Steampunk Festival coming up next month. Between all that and planning for my trip to Montreal for a big 3 day business conference, my days are pretty packed!!!

Mary would LOVE a steampunk festival! She wore her yellow Victorian steampunk dress to the Renaissance Festival last year (her cousin got married there) and was stopped by a family who looked to be from India. They had their picture taken with her! She's working on a new outfit which involves leggings, a corset, leggins, etc. I've got to make the bustle for it but she'll be wearing it to the Renaissance Festival this year.
The funny thing about the RenFest: You can see outfits of all kinds there. For the wedding, Anita dressed as a peasant, Elli was a fairy and Jude and Aaron wore pirate costumes. Going around we saw Monty Python knights from Search for the Holy Grail, Shrek and Fiona, and Mr. Spock!

Which RenFest do you attend, Joyce? The one in Holly, Michigan. I've always wanted to attend it but I've never gone until last year. It was a blast! www.michrenfest.com/

I think I mentioned that I put in a vegetable garden this summer since I retired and would have time to take care of it. I'm starting to see fruits of those labours. My first tomato! Almost ready to be picked. I've also picked some beans. Picked enough basil to make a huge batch of pesto. Along with chives, tarragon, dill, parsley, and oregano. ☺ Now I'm waiting for zucchini and peppers.

I am trying to get the library's website to present the way *I* want it to and not how the html code is deciding it should. There is swearing going on...
So, instead I am going to concentrate on Sal's beautiful tomato...

I managed to sleep through 10 obnoxious alarms this morning, so right now I am still trying to wake up. Apparently I need to sleep for a week.
It's 2 pm and I'm still waiting for the first coffee to kick in so I'm actually coherent with people at work.

Nothing. And before anyone says, ah, I'm sorry, IT'S GLORIOUS! This is the transition day for vacation and I have work to do, but it's foreseeable now. Eight hours done this morning and about 5 more tonight to be all done, but for this moment, gloriously, nothing!

So I just got back from a 3 day camping trip to the beach. This was our 3rd year in the location and we had heard the mosquitos could literally carry away cats, puppies, and small children. We had only seen a few in our location the last two years but this year was different. Quite a few mosquitos night one. Night two... the stuff horror movies are made of! Hubby wanted to go over to the other island to eat so we took a 45 minute ferry one way, ate, and came back... knowing that is was raining when we left. Our shelter next to our tents had been blown over and mangled and all the stuff underneath knocked over. Our son's tent was wet on the inside and he was zonked out because our little trip over to the island lasted until 10:30. Even though it was raining still, the mosquitos were out and they were in the bathroom too. After cleaning up the site a little, we all went to sleep in our tent. Next morning there were about 100 mosquitos between our rain fly and our tent. The air was thick with them outside the tent too and even though I sprayed with repellant, I missed a few places. Today, I think I have about 100 bites, most on my legs and back. Thankfully most don't itch. The strangest patch is about 16 on my kneecap in a very small area, about the size of a 50 cent piece. I think my knee touched the tent mess during the night and they feasted on that patch! I must say that patch is rather itchy and a little tender since it is so big!
I have done very little today as I am worn out from all of our vacationing over the last month!

Good HEAVENS, Paulina Ann! That is absolutely awful! I'm one of those people who, if bitten by a mosquito at all, the bite swells up to about the size of a dime for 3 or 4 days and itches unbearably that whole time...and then scars. I'm glad you aren't affected like that, at least. No one in their right minds should go camping, ever...that's my opinion.

Laurie, I want to do nothing, too! The Siren Song of home and /or quietness is always appealing. Paulina, you always amaze me with your adventures! I have had a busy summer as well. I've been working. We have already been to Cape May, Wildwood, Ellis Island, and Gettysburg. We had my daughter's birthday and time spent at the pools and Six Flags. I'm so excited to be going to NY to see Phantom (third time) next weekend. I keep trying (emphasis) to get to the gym- not going well. We are going to Niagra Falls in a few weeks, which should be fun. And I am pretty sure (don't want to jinx it) that Alaina and I are getting together soon and I am beyond excited about it! Today was my anniversary, and it was soooo romantic. I spent from 9-4:30 in an Allergist's office to determine that I am not allergic to penicillin as I believed I have been for, say, 35 years-- give or take-- but one of my kids has pretty bad tree pollen allergies. We came home to have a store bought pizza as a quick dinner, but my husband did buy me lovely roses. And the kids got cupcakes. Then, we watched our wedding video and laughed at how young we were. I keep trying to write-- 8 chapters done-- but my new story is fighting me in ways my others did not. So I think I just need to breathe and be at peace and perhaps the muses will speak soon. Hope everyone is having a great summer!

Although there was the time I'm pretty sure I watched a...........yeah, bear. Definitely a bear............stalk our camp in the fog one year. Then there was the time something BIG was sniffling in my ear outside the tent. Then there was the time we got caught in the middle of a severe thunderstorm and a waterfall soaked all of us. Then there was the time we were doing a reenactment wagon train and a severe thunderstorm complete with a tornado went through at night, then again the next day (trust me. Covered wagons versus the EF2 tornadoes are not an experience I wish to repeat!). But I've also had some really fun experiences, so I guess it all depends on what Mother Nature is in the mood for.

JD - That's awful! You'd have had to go to the doctor for all the bites I have! Well, actually, you probably would have left sooner than we did! (And for good reason!)
cheryl - sounds like you still have vacationing to do! Have fun! And tell those muses I said to get with it! I'm going to need another story!
@fflur - Now THOSE are some camping nightmares! I have to say this was my worst experience except for the time hubby and I tried to put up a brand new tent in the rain for about 4 hours while I had a sinus infection. That was horrendous and he's lucky I even went camping again after that. It was my first camping experience.
Stormwatcher - I did see some beautiful lightning over the sound lighting up the clouds in the darkness. Have to say, I wasn't too thrilled about being on a ferry during said lightning storm.

I'm just back from a wedding on the beach- South Myrtle beach, to be more precise. Drove down on Sunday morning, drove back today, and the one main downside to the whole business was Interstate 95. : p My husband's best friend finally married his girl after 9 years of courtship; husband was in the wedding party and I got to tag along as co-friend and guest. We got to stay in real beachfront property; the family rented two of the giant resort houses, one of which had its own private dock straight down to the sand. We had two rainy-morning days but they cleared in the afternoon and we had some great swimming- wonderful water and NO JELLYFISH AT ALL! I managed not to get much of a sunburn despite some pretty strong sun, and I got to enjoy a couple of lovely emphatic thunderstorms as well. We also had a really good home-made fireworks display, the groom and his family are, if not professional, very skilled amateurs at that sort of thing, and set off something in excess of 150. Almost as good as 4th of July! The wedding itself was very sweet, if a bit warm; even by 6:30pm it's pretty hot on the sand for people in dresses and slacks. Even light ones. All the groomsmen wore Hawaiian shirts and about half of us took off our shoes to get to our seats! Then dinner (choice of flounder, veal or beef, I had flounder- how can you not have fish at the shore? It was the right choice, it was SO good!) and cannoli and cupcakes instead of cake. Dancing followed, and picture-taking in one of those photo-booth things; never got to pose in one of those before. And then about 10:30 it was back to the house and pack up to leave this morning, alas. I'm glad to get back to my kitties, though, I missed the little furballs. And I am looking forward to more of those emphatic thunderstorms up here for the next couple days. Paulina Ann: Oh my goodness! Wretched little bloodsuckers! And no, I too prefer not to be on water when the lightning begins, however pleased I may be to see it. Cheryl: Isn't it infuriating when a story gets ornery that way? Rokia, I hope your ankle's feeling better!

I'm with JD on camping AND mosquito bites. I don't go anywhere that doesn't have indoor plumbing and where I can't plug in my hair dryer. My idea of camping is a nice cabin with all the amenities or a lodge where I can spend all day outdoors hiking, etc. but come back to a roof and walls and lights and heat or AC and indoor plumbing when it gets dark. THAT is my idea of camping. For me, mosquito bites itch like crazy (any bug bites, really) and swell up ridiculously for about an hour and then they're gone. Started my weekend last night meeting my sister for dinner. Had a great time, just getting caught up. We talk 3-4 times a week at least but it's always about our parents - we're in the stage of life where we are now taking care of them - and they can be VERY stubborn. This morning I took a hike through the woods with Deuce, with some rock jumping and splashing in the creek. Then went to a 90 minute class at Orangetheory Fitness! They do the 90 minute classes once a month; LOVE them! Today was Run-to-Row (yup, you run, then you row, then you run, then you row...) which I usually hate, but today the longest run was only 1/4 of a mile and the maximum rows were only 250 meters. I did much better than I thought and didn't feel like I was going to pass out! LOL! Then grocery shopping, running errands, playing with Deuce with the hose ( he LOVES to 'bite' the water as it comes out of the hose) and filling up his pool so he could lay down in it and cool off. We're on day 5 of a heat wave. It's been stupid hot, with heat indexes over 100 for days. Or as Teresa at work says: "It's so hot, it's disrespectful." Tomorrow will be agility class with Deuce in the morning, weekly visit to my parents for breakfast (after stopping at Costco to get all the things on my mom's shopping list that she gave me last week!), then, hopefully home to relax. Well, after mowing the lawn, but I think I got all my errands done today so tomorrow is all mine! Stormwatcher - how much traffic did you hit driving through Delaware? I won't even get on I-95 in the summer unless I have no choice. They added a 5th lane and put in a 'fly over' ramp a few years ago to alleviate the traffic and it seems to have gotten worse! I LOVE Myrtle Beach! The water is just perfect and given what a popular vacation spot it is, it never really seems crowded. Oh, JD, today during the floorwork section we did "wipers". Every time we do them I think of you because the first time I ever did that exercise was in one of the classes I went to with you when Rokia and I came to visit. The lay on your back, arms out, knees in, and drop them side to side to work the abs. But at Orangetheory they do them with the legs straight up in the air. YIKES! Anyway - every time we do them in class I think of you!

Alaina, I wouldn't even ATTEMPT to do them with straight legs! I miss those classes we went to -- the aerobics class is no more, nor is the one we went to at the fitness center. They do Group Power instead, which is absolutely no fun whatsoever at all ever. As for what I did today -- went over to the church and with a group of other women, made "dilly beans" for the annual bazaar, which is in November. We processed 60 pounds of green beans and canned them, in about 4 hours [It was 63 quarts, if I remember correctly.]. Now, let's all keep our fingers crossed that they all SEAL!!! And then I came home and started doing laundry and canned dill pickles.
