I work in an office that is on the same street as this year's location for the Lucille Ball Festival of Comedy.
We locals avoid the city this time of year for the same reason the locals in New Orleans avoid Mardi Gras. Currently am plotting how to best address the inevitable traffic jams starting tomorrow >.<

I'll recap the last few days:
On Saturday, I created a fairy garden from a tree stump. I had to have the apple tree in my yard cut down because it was dying. The stump it left behind is very cool looking so I indulged myself and created a fairy garden! After that I helped Mary paint her bedroom. On Saturday we painted with primer and then Sunday we painted the color she wants. She was only 7 when we moved here and the walls at that time were a lavender with flower and butterfly wallpaper border around the ceiling - very much a little girl's room. I told her we'd redo her room whatever color she wanted so she chose yellow. I also bought a small bottle of gold paint and she wants to freehand paint designs on her walls. As of yesterday she still hadn't decided what she was going to do. That's when I informed her that she had until Saturday. That's the day I'll make her move ALL HER STUFF THAT'S PILED UP IN THE LIVING ROOM back into her bedroom! Seriously, this kid is unable to throw anything away! Anyway, that gives her a week to do the finishing touches on her walls.
And yesterday we went to the county fair to see Bill Engvall! Usually the big name for the fair entertainment is a country singer but this year they got one of my favorite comedians! Mary, Anita, Aaron and I all went for a wonderful show! Anita and her kids, Mary and I will be back there on Friday for the day. I always take a full day off work for the fair. The Budweiser Clydesdales are here too!
Next week, Mary and I will see the a Capella group Pentatonix in concert. The week after THAT I'm going to the Michigan Fiber Arts Festival near Kalamazoo. The week after THAT we might go to Greenfield Village since Mary's only been there once.
Yep. An exhausting summer so far!

I love Pentatonix! Ben and I listened to their new song this morning. Then we went to the Berkshires to go for our first ever horseback ride. I enjoyed it. The boyfriend enjoyed it. Ben announced the next time we want to have an adventure, we should leave him at home. Teenagers...

We locals avoid the city this time of year for the same reason the locals in New Orleans avoid Mardi Gras. Currently am plotting how to best address the inevitable traffic jams starting tomorrow >.< I can relate. I worked in Philadelphia for 7 years; 3 of them a block from the Liberty Bell & Independence Hall. Every year around the 4th of July Philly hosts the Welcome America Celebration. It lasts 7-10 days. The first few days it's kind of neat seeing all the tourists come from all over the world to see the birthplace of American Independence, but I distinctly remember by the 4th day, arriving at work after battling through the crowds and telling my co-workers "It's time for America to go home." Joyce, that is a very busy summer!!! But it sounds like fun. And I LOVE Bill Engvall!! Tomorrow my sister, my niece, her husband and I are taking their two boys and two of our great nieces to Dutch Wonderland. It's an amusement park specifically for the toddler to 7-8 year old set. We take a day off every summer and take them. They love it! And we get a lot of exercise - especially this year since ALL of them will be mobile! In the past we've always had 1 or 2 in a stroller. Last Friday Cheryl and I met up at the Ground Sculpture Museum in New Jersey. We had a GREAT time! Haven't seen each other in almost a year. We walked around the museum, which has some really amazing sculptures - and few that are somewhat disturbing! The weather was perfect, especially since they had been forecasting thunderstorms all week; most of the sculptures are outside so you wander down paths, around trees and through gardens... it's really beautiful. We promised not to wait another year before we get together again since we live less than two hours apart!

Neighbors Night Out party at -- of course -- the neighbors' house this evening. Despite 95-degree temp it was a nice time. Every year I re-meet people and then promptly forget who they are until the following year! And these are not necessarily NEW people, but people who've lived where they are for at least a decade [in our case and our two closest neighbors, 27 years!]. Anyway, fun getting re-acquainted again. Alaina, I'm so glad you and Cheryl do manage to get together at least occasionally!

It was really great to see Alaina. I think that both of our throats hurt the next day from talking so much! Alaina really loved a series of artistic renditions called "Burned Papers", right?! 😂😉 Why on earth didn't we get a picture of that?! And yes-- we only love about an hour and a half apart, so more frequent get togethers will be a must!

Bill Engvall! Love that guy! I once sent him a 'Here's Your Sign' moment that I'd had at work- (Customer: Um, is this the price of this cough syrup? :pointing at the price tag: Me: Uh..yes ma'am, 12.69 is the price. :in my head: Why no, ma'am, that's the quantity we're supposed to have on the shelf, twelve point six-nine. We have to cut the last one in half, you should SEE the mess it makes. Here is your sign, thank you Mr Engvall!)- and he wrote back saying that it made him laugh. : D Currently we're trying to settle out our next vacation. My dad turns 75 (!!!!!!) at the end of December, and he wants a family reunion in the Florida Keys for the first week of January. So he's renting two beach-houses but it's up to us to get down to 'em. Sooooo, I've been busily going over airlines, airports, and departure/arrival times until my eyes feel ready to cross. Southwest out of BWI! United out of IAD! Jetblue out of DCA! Ft Lauderdale or Miami! Non-stop, one-stop or two-stop! (Ok, that one's a no-brainer; give me non-stop or give me a different flight.) I think I'm going to saddle the husband with the whole car-rental thing, it's only fair he should have to get all muddled too.

I need to do more fun stuff obviously. The highlight of my day was going to my Weight Watcher's meeting. I do leave in less than 2 weeks for Gencon. That'll be fun!

I got up at 3am this morning to catch a 6am flight to DC. We got settled in at the Airbnb, did a bit of grocery shopping, then played tourist. Today was Air and Space and a glance at the Botanic Garden, but we were too tired to spend a lot of time there. Tomorrow is the spy museum and the Library of Congress. Whew!

Today is Fair Day! Every year my daughter Mary and I take a full day and spend it at the Monroe County Fair in Michigan. I'm taking the day off work and we'll be heading out soon. The weird thing is that the high today is low 70's! We're used to the temps being in the upper 80s or 90s when we go so this will be nice!
The Budweiser Clydsdales are there this year so we'll be seeing a show they're putting on. Plus the merchant building (lots of freebies and contests), animal barns, outdoor merchants and games. We'll be mostly avoiding the midway this year. Only last week in Ohio there was an accident involving a popular midway ride at the state fair that caused the death of an 18 year old when part of ride fell apart and the people were violently thrown off. It was absolutely horrible! Turns out that the same company handles the rides at our fair. Anita will be meeting me up there and absolutely refuses to let her kids ride even the kiddie rides. I don't blame her. Mary isn't as interested in riding anything anyway. But you don't need rides to have fun at the fair. Should be a great day!

Love Air and Space! I am DYING to go to the spy museum! The spy museum was a lot of fun! The 'spy in the city's add-on would have been more fun if a) my son was younger and b) it wasn't 90F degrees with 85% humidity. My favorite parts were the sections on historical spying and Bond villians.

I enjoy county and state fairs, but I do NOT go on rides. And truth be told, I haven't BEEN to a fair in years. My parents weren't fair goers either. We started going to the fair when I was dating my ex. Except for Laura, my girls have gone every year of their lives. Laura can't do crowds like that anymore so she hasn't been to the fair in years. But Anita and Mary have been going since, well, before they were born!

We've had temperatures in the 30's with high humidity here so it's been a good week to spend indoors doing research for the 1810(ish) ball gown that I'm making. I've ordered the corset fabric which is sold by the centimetre! and once I've made that I can start work on the dress. I found a lovely and very sheer; purple and ivory coloured cotton sari in a second hand stop that I'm going to use for the bodice, sleeves and over skirt. I'm planning to line it with an ivory crepe back satin.
I should be working on a new Tudor fitted gown but I've been goofing off.

I'd love to see the pictures now that I can half see, lol. Got some weird uveitis crud that raised the pressure in my eyeballs through the roof - haven't been able to see squat for weeks. I thought I'd be able to type (and write) a little but these last 2 weeks have been impossible. It's finally getting better and I can read a few minutes, but ugh. It's one way to extend vacation, I suppose...
