Bummer! I couldn't see the picture Nancy when I clicked on it. Perhaps it's my old computer, it does have 'issues.' I love doing costumes as well though I haven't worn one in ages. I have one I made for a Renaissance (probably just misspelled that) Fair and two Star Trek uniforms.
Ugh! Laurie! That eye crud sounds awful! Hope you are better soon! After all, I need to know if Joe survives his plunge into the pool! ;-D

Eyeing Hurricane Gert off the coast and kind hoping she'll continue heading north and east, instead of west. She's around about South Carolina, or would be if she was closer in.

Working and getting materials together for an Any Gauge Sweater Class I'm teaching at my LYS this fall. Students will be learning to design their own sweaters!
Luckily I have about 10 sweaters I've designed.

Funny thing, my Gram knitted, crocheted, and sewed. My mom knitted, crocheted, and sewed. Mum-in-law is a certified seamstress (read costume designer for a well-known dinner theater for over a decade; nominated for a Helen Hayes award no less). My Nana used to sew and knit as well. My stepmom knits, my dad darn well weaves, got his own loom... And then there's me, who does very well to tell one end of the needle from the other. :headscratch: I mean, you'd think *some* of it would've rubbed off, somewhere along the way.

I can knit, crochet, tat, and tell different embroidery stitches apart and even tell what kind of material was used just by feel. Just tonight I figured out how to stabilise a raglan sleve seam completely on my own because.otherwise there were gaping holes.
Sewing machines are a completely different story.

Today I have spent a lot of time staring in horrified awe at pictures and videos of the flooding in Houston. I don't recall if we have any HDA folk in the affected area, but if so- stay safe! It's scary down there!

Once upon a time we did -- little gal by the name of Milli [well, I don't know what her real name was; that was the name she used on the board] -- but who knows if she's still there? She was about Austin's age, if I remember correctly.

I have a bunch of friends in Houston from another book club site I'm a long time member of. So far everyone is safe barring the expected water damage. This reminds me way too much of Katria when my uncle had to evacuate from New Orleans for weeks.
In happier news, I have an appointment with an employment agency today. The nonprofit I started isn't generating paychecks yet and my year contract with the other firm is up October 2. Here's hoping I can find a decent job, because it's nearly impossible to and I refuse to spend another year in a position where according to the job description, "members typically qualify for public assistance benefits."
Don't get me wrong, that's terrific that these programs exist, but I really do need to be able to pay bills on my own and have insurance that will cover Urgent Care. :\

Checking in while watching Harvey track right for me. It's a light steady rain at the moment, not a lot of wind. The bulk of the rain is coming in a couple hours. Probably while I'm out getting my hair cut, lol. Most of the places in Louisiana that flooded last August from a no-name tropical low are fine this time. Lake Charles has gotten at least 20 inches, though. Some of our Cajun Navy guys who headed out Sunday afternoon stopped in Lafayette to marshall up for Lake Charles flooding.
I did a post on Facebook about good ways to donate to help. I'm happy to bring it over here in its own thread if anyone wants it.
I knit, crochet, can use a sewing machine, do embroidery and some ribbon embroidery. But my main crafting love is intricate, complicated counted cross-stitch.

I like cross-stitch too, Purple, but I never got to the level of intricate and complicated!

I've recently discovered that many cross stitch border patterns make very effective stranded colorwork knitting patterns, and the monotone patterns work super effectively in sweater panels.
Oops. Just gave myself an excuse to get even more yarn.
Stash busting time!

Nothing in particular to say but been to the eye doc today and my eyes have been dilated all day, so haven't been able to read, or sew, or work, or ... well you get it, so now taking out my boredom on all of you!

Been trying to do my last essay for this course as well as the other requirements needed. Its a week break for Uni but since the subjects im doing now dont really need me at Uni i'm either at home, appointments or work. Work has been busy with lots of people sick and luckily i've not been one of them! although i am on slight restrictions due to an ankle injury i sustained at work by a naughty swinging door that decided I needed a good whacking... so sprained ankle and a small fracture found. Off restrictions next week. but that hasn't stopped me being busy. Hope everyone is well!

Wondering where the heck September went. And telling the leaves to git back up on them-thar branches; I refuse to contemplate raking yet.
Oh, let me belt out a health service announcement here: get y'all your flu shots!! This coming winter's flu is already active and it's looking to be a busier, more severe season than last year- which was quite sufficient itself. Unless you have a really serious valid reason not to get intramuscular, get that; the nasal version is not as effective. Got mine yesterday from my pharmacist and he did a great job, I didn't even have any soreness in my arm unless I actually pressed on the injection site.
